PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) says high-ranking civil servants must stop golfing overseas.

In an interview with Mingguan Malaysia, MACC Chief Commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad said there were enough golfing courses in Malaysia so there was no need for high-ranking civil servants to go golfing in countries like Thailand and Indonesia.

Dzulkifli said civil servants were not professional golfers who needed to play overseas and their actions could lead to corruption and abuse of power.

“MACC is monitoring the movements and activities of a group of civil servants. We have information on this.

“Even though the civil servants involved have proof that they are paying for their own trips, but the moment they arrive overseas, they are hosted by certain parties,” he said, adding the “hosts” would also foot the guests’ shopping bills.

Dzulkifli said it would be better for civil servants to golf at local courses and contribute back to the economy.
