All 50 passengers safe though train ran off tracks because of landslides from heavy rain.
PETALING JAYA: Heavy rains in the East Coast caused a landslide that derailed a train this morning along the Bukit Abu-Dabung, Kuala Krai line in Kelantan.
Train service on the route has stopped because of the derailment at 8.30am but other East Coast services are normal.
KTM head of corporate communications Ridhwan Arshad told FMT: “Based on the initial report we received this morning only 50 passengers were affected by the incident and there were no casualties.
“Those affected by the incident were transited by bus to the nearest station. We are doing our level best to put back the system within 48 hours.”
Ridhwan also said that KTMB will not stop their train services to the East Coast.
“From Gemas to Gua Musang and Tanah Merah is all clear. If the trains heading to the East Coast are affected by the floods then we will provide alternative transport such as bus service to send those who are stranded to the nearest stations.”
He said KTMB will continue to look out for the interest of its passengers.
“We will do our level best to ease the burden of the passengers.”
Meanwhile, FMT had reported that a total of 31 flood relief centres have been opened in Terengganu and 10 in Kelantan, as heavy rains continue to lash the East Coast.
According to the welfare department, some 1,509 people in Terengganu and 1,212 people in Kelantan have been evacuated to the relief centres.
The worst hit area is Hulu Terengganu, where over 800 people have been evacuated.
